Here is king Philippe of France, along with Galon de Montigny, a knight who bears the Oriflamme, St-Denis sacred banner and his retinue. He was nicknamed Augustus for he was born in august.

Philippe II was crowned in 1179 when he was 15 years old. At this time, his royal domain was small and threatened by the powerful Henry II Plantagenest. Philippe became a true friend with Richard who often rebelled against his father. However their growing rivalry turned this friendship into a true hate.

Though Philippe II was not as a great warrior as Richard I, he was a very good manager and diplomat. he established a powerful administration in his royal domain.

After the battle of Bouvines and the defeat of the coalition led by the German Emperor Othon IV, his nickname celebrated his triumph.

The knights figures, the men-at-arms and crossbowmen are from Crusader Miniatures.
