Here’s an AAR based on the Gloire’s Waylaid Messenger scenario. I did some modifications as I don’t have painted any decent brigands yet.

Pierre de Rilletes, a King’s messenger was ambushed by plotters of the Black Diamond Brotherhood. Though severly wounded, he managed to escape but his horse died as he reached a small hamlet not far from his final destination.

Philippe de Gensac, one of the main plotters and 2 lieutenants, Louis de Callus and Bertrand de Cygan were sent to find the messenger, kill him and retrieve and a letter with very secret information. At the same time, the Baron Guy of Montluc, with 2 knights, Olivier de la Chape and Simon de Neuville arrive to save the messenger.

There are 8 information markers on the map. When a model reaches a marker a card is draw and the player discovers the event.

1 : Wounded Messenger ( 3 Victory Points for the King’s Agent if he exits the map alive / 1 VP for the plotters if they kill him).

    2 : A very important letter with the Cardinal’s seal (2 VP)

    3 : An important letter with a royal seal ( 1VP)

4 : An important letter with the Queen’s seal (1VP)

    5 : A very secret letter ( 3VP for the plotters, 1 VP for the King’s agents).

6 : A Hole in the ground - No movement next turn

7 : A noise nearby, but it’s only a bird - No firing allowed this turn.

8 : A barking dog - No movement next turn as the model tries to quiet it

    GAME REPORT

While Guy de Montluc and Olivier de la Chape move towards the pond, Simon de Neuville passes over the fence.

Philippe de Gensac and Louis de Callus passe over the hedgerow with Bertrand de Cygan following.

While Olivier de la Chape is distracted by a bird, Simon de Neuville finds a very secret letter with King Louis’s personal seal !

Louis de Callus finds a letter near the hedgerow, it’s an important letter with Queen’s seal.

Guy de Montluc and Olivier de la Chape move towards the house and face up an agressive dog. Simon de Neuville advances on the road, in the front of the house.

Philippe de Gensac reached the old celtic cross but he puts his boot on a hole. Louis de Callus and Bertrand de Cygan advance in the field.

While Bertrand de Cygan passes over the hedgerow, Louis de Callus finds another letter catched in the bushes with a Royal seal.

Unfortunately for Monsieur de Cygan, Simon de Neuville saw him crossing the road. The Knight takes his pistol and fires. The bullet hits Bertrand de Cygan who falls down unconscious.

Alerted by the gunshot, Philippe de Gensac and Louis de Callus moves towards Simon the Neuville.

Guy de Montluc and Olivier de la Chape finally join their friend. Simon advances towards the large building and finds another letter, with the Cardinal’s seal.

Louis de Callus passes over the Hedgerows and discovers the wounded messenger hidden behind wood crates. But before he can kill him, Guy de Montluc charges him with his rapier and pistol. Simultaneously, Olivier de la Chape and Simon de Neuville charge Philippe de Gensac.

Guy de Montluc is a far better swordman than Louis who is quickly killed.

Even versus 2 charging opponents, Philippe de Gensac doesn’t give up.

Unfortunately, Philippe is wounded once by Olivier de la Chape and pushed back.

Finally, Philippe can’t resist and he’s killed.

Guy de Montluc helps the Messenger. The King’s Agent won a decisive victory.

Let’s go to the tavern, I need a good bottle says Guy !
